PERLIS - The Northern Gem
Replete with sprawling paddy fields and abundance of natural beauty, Perlis is the smallest and northernmost state in the Peninsular Malaysia. Largely agricultural, its historical background and development are marked by early archaeological discoveries and multiracial society of Malays, Chinese, Indians and Thais as it shares its border with Thailand.
There are several natural attractions that make this state a unique destination such as the Perlis State Park and Gua Kelam. Travelers can also shop for duty free items at Padang Besar or scour the local markets for interesting knick-knacks and handicraft items. For those who love cities and towns with a slightly relaxed pace of life and a little history on the side, you may want to visit Kangar, the state capital, with historic buildings such as the majestic Syed Alwi Mosque or the Royal Town of Arau where the Royal Palace is currently located.
