NEGERI SEMBILAN - Home of Ancient Traditions
Negeri Sembilan may be small but it is rich with culture and historical legacies. Literally means nine states, it is often associated and identified with the pervasive influence of the Minangkabau culture. The Adat Pepatih, a unique feature of the state courtesy of the migration of the Minangkabau people from Sumatra centuries ago, is a matrilineal social system that is continuously being practiced until today. Their craftsmanship is present in the creation of houses with upswept roofs reminiscent of buffalo horns. While their social system is embraced and manifested through clan and marriage customs, property ownership and distinctive dance forms.
Seremban, the state capital of Negeri Sembilan, is just about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur. It is a flourishing urban centre with a few historical and cultural landmarks. The coastal resort of Port Dickson is a popular weekend retreat on Peninsular Malaysia's southern western coast. Its sunny beaches, lined by tall coconut tress and shady casuarinas, are perfect for a short beach holiday. Its famous Teluk Kemang and Blue Lagoon Resorts are continuously filled with water sports and beach activities.
